This month has been an intense one of travel, travel, and more travel. When traveling, though, it's easy for me to get out of the groove of my running pattern and skip a day or two. As we know, without a set routine it is very very hard to make ourselves do what we know we should do. Waking up at different times of the day, in different hotel rooms (sometimes with beautiful and enticing pools outside)...how on earth do you motivate yourself?

Here are three great ways:

1. Make running the thing you HAVE TO DO before completing a task that you must do every day (even while traveling). i.e. - if you're on vacation and every day you head to the beach to tan, then make sure that each day before you go to the beach you get in a run!

2. Make running the very first thing you do in the morning. Yes. You have heard this before and will hear this again. As soon as you get up. Do nothing else before you run...

3. Tell yourself it's okay to run for a shorter length of time. This is one of the best ways to get the unmotivated sloth in you out the door. "Only a 15 minute run," you can tell yourself. As you'll see, when you get to 15 minutes you most likely will extend your time. (I'm already out here...might as well...)
